Partners—Juniper Networks Mobile Backhaul
With more than 4.5 billion unique mobile subscribers worldwide, advances in radio access, mobile core, and smart device sectors have created tremendous opportunities for mobile providers. Operators are investing upwards of $100 billion per year just to keep pace with rapid growth and technological evolution. As technology improves, users are demanding higher quality services that often exceed the network’s current capabilities, leaving them dissatisfied. The rise of machine to machine (M2M) communications and Internet of Things (IoT) puts even greater emphasis on the availability and security of the mobile network. To meet these challenges, it’s critical that you have a mobile backhaul (MBH) solution that is easy to deploy and manage, that is built with a highly scalable and programmable control plane and a low latency data plane. Juniper Networks ACX™ series universal access routers acting as small cell and macro cell routers support zero touch provisioning (ZTP) to minimize installation and deployment costs, while Juniper Networks Junos Space Service Activation Director™ automates backhaul services provisioning, activation and maintenance to simplify typically labor intensive processes.
The Juniper Networks MBH™ portfolio includes, Juniper Networks ACX™ series universal access routers, which deliver the scale, performance and integrated timing features needed to aggregate mobile, residential and business services. The Juniper Networks Junos Space Network Management™ platform, for single—pane control. SDN ready Juniper Networks MX™ series 3D universal edge routers, to provide the aggregation and transport services required for next generation backhaul architectures. Taken together, the Juniper Networks MBH™ solution enables revenue growth while minimizing cost, a winning combination. Juniper Networks SRX™ series services gateways, to protect mobile network and user traffic. A backhaul Network Designed For The Future
Investment protection without compromise. The accelerating speed of innovation is forcing mobile operators deploying LTE today to start planning for migration to LTE Advanced now. The Juniper Networks™ mobile backhaul solution was designed from the ground up with LTE and LTE Advanced requirements in mind. Juniper Networks ACX™ series universal access routers deliver macro and small—cell router capabilities. Equipped with 10GbE interfaces and providing 60Gbps of throughput, they satisfy LTE Advanced and 5G capacity requirements. SDN ready Juniper Networks MX™ series 3D universal edge routers provide the necessary transport services such as L2—VPN, L3—VPN, IPsec, deep packet inspection (DPI) and analytics, enabling next generation backhaul architecture for LTE Advanced. Juniper Networks TCA™ series timing appliances act as precision time protocol (PTP) grandmaster and client clocks to provide highly accurate frequency and phase synchronization within the radio access network. Juniper Networks ACX™ series universal access routers acting as small cell and macro cell routers support zero touch provisioning (ZTP) to minimize installation and deployment costs.
Build Mobile Backhaul Networks
Backhaul networks that scale to meet both customer and budget demands. With more than 4.5 billion unique mobile subscribers worldwide, advances in radio access, mobile core, and smart device sectors have created tremendous opportunities for mobile providers. Multiple challenges, too. First and foremost is cost—operators are investing upwards of $100 billion per year just to keep pace with rapid growth and technological evolution. Second, as technology improves, users are demanding higher quality services that often exceed the network’s current capabilities, leaving them dissatisfied. Finally, the rise of machine to machine (M2M) communications and Internet of Things (IoT) puts even greater emphasis on the availability and security of the mobile network. To meet these challenges, it’s critical that you have a mobile backhaul (MBH) solution that is easy to deploy and manage, that is built with a highly scalable and programmable control plane and a low latency data plane. The Juniper Networks MBH™ portfolio was designed from the ground up to help mobile operators capture revenue opportunities associated with the migration to LTE A and beyond.
Features And Benefits
Operational efficiency at scale. The frequency reuse properties of LTE allow the addition of micro cells to provide sufficient capacity to support growing traffic levels. This solution, called Juniper Networks HetNet™, proposes adding anywhere from 10 to 100 small cells within each macro cell to support anticipated 10 to 100 times data traffic growth over the next few years, assuming capacity scales linearly and interference is managed effectively. One of the challenges in deploying small cells is providing an appropriate backhaul mechanism. Since fiber is not always readily available, alternate means such as DSL, cable modems, and Line of Sight (LOS) and Non—Line of Sight (NLOS) microwave and millimeter wave radios are required. Due to the growing number of sites and the diversity of backhaul mechanisms needing to be managed, the deployment and provisioning of backhaul links is a significant contributor to operational expenses. The Juniper Networks™ mobile backhaul solution addresses these operational aspects throughout the life cycle of HetNet deployment. The Juniper Networks MBH™ portfolio was designed to help mobile operators capture revenue opportunities associated with the migration to LTE A and beyond.
